Many similar
programs are located in lower income areas where drug
activity is rampant and could easily tempt one to use,
especially in a weak moment. Other programs are located
in rural areas that are not convenient for employment
or AA/NA meetings. We are also near two first-rate gyms
and we strongly encourage our residents to exercise
to help reduce stress and anxiety while helping to build
back their self-esteem.
The apartments
are fully furnished and the furniture is routinely inspected and replaced on an
ongoing basis. There are private telephones in each apartment. The telephones
all come equipped with answering machines so family and friends can keep in touch
as well as places of employment. All the apartments have 25-inch color televisions
with cable. Many have VCR's as well and it is common to have the residents plan
to get together on the weekend after a meeting and socialize while enjoying a
movie together.

We encourage
our residents to develop new healthy relationships with other women in recovery
and we feel if they have a pleasant place to live, they are more likely to be
on the property where they are safe during their free time and not out roaming
the streets looking for something to do.
We also
provide transportation to AA/NA meetings daily in new vans that are clean and
comfortable. Our residents must attend 5 meetings a week and we find that if they
are able to attend these as a group it again aids in the development of new friendships.
It also makes it a bit more comfortable for a woman who is perhaps shy or nervous
about attending meetings in the beginning. Our apartments have ample closet space
and there are storage rooms behind each unit. Half of our units have walk-in closets
in fact.
The furniture
is modern and so are the appliances. All kitchenware, towels, sheets and linens
are provided so essentially all one needs to bring is their clothes!
